The physicians in our Neurology Unit have the necessary clinical expertise to treat the full array of neurological diseases.

Our team also provides treatment for other diseases in coordination with the relevant specialists.

Our physicians deliver prompt, personalized medical care thanks in part to the Hospital’s world-class testing and diagnostic services, where all the necessary exams can be performed within short timeframes.

The presence of a multidisciplinary intensive care unit, an intermediate care unit and a coronary care unit enables us to treat patients under optimal safety conditions.

The American Hospital of Paris does not treat pathologies such as myopathies or aneurisms.

Neurology

Description of support or specific features

Our Neurology Department is specialized in the medical and surgical treatment of spinal diseases.

We ensure the prompt assessment of your pathology prior to treatment. A neurosurgeon will then manage your care in a world-class medical and paramedical environment.

Diagnostic consultations are available at the American Hospital of Paris for patients with brain disease. An agreement between the American Hospital of Paris and Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital allows patients to undergo surgery at the latter if necessary. Post-operative follow-up visits take place directly at the American Hospital of Paris.

The Gynecology Department of the American Hospital of Paris treats benign lesions, gynecological cancers and functional pathologies in women.

Gynecological surgical emergencies such as ectopic pregnancies, ovarian torsion, salpingitis and complications resulting from a Bartholin gland infection are handled 24/7 by a senior surgeon.

Our medical and paramedical teams’ top priority is to ensure early post-operative rehabilitation and a rapid return to normal activities. Our gynecologists therefore promote the development of micro-invasive techniques.

Description of support or specific features

Our gynecologists work closely with our imaging department and clinical laboratory to make rapid diagnoses.

For some disorders such as fibroids, our gynecologists propose multidisciplinary care involving interventional radiologists.

Conditions that may affect fertility such as fibroids, fallopian tube disorders and endometriosis are treated after a multidisciplinary meeting with the Assisted Reproductive Technology team.

Surgeons from different specialties can also provide treatment when required by the pathology. For instance, for the surgical treatment of an endometrioma, a gynecologist, a urologist and a gastrointestinal surgeon can intervene, during a single procedure, on all of the organs affected.

Our multidisciplinary team combined with the presence of a Fetal Medicine Unit, efficient, innovative testing and diagnostic services featuring state-of-the-art imaging technology, a clinical laboratory, an adult intensive care unit and the ability to perform blood transfusions on site ensure optimal safety and quality of care.

Our medical excellence is further enhanced by special services designed to improve the well-being of pregnant women and of new mothers and their infants.

A prenatal consultation at the beginning of the pregnancy gives future mothers an opportunity to talk and to be heard. Throughout the pregnancy and in the weeks following the birth, well-being sessions are available such as birthing classes, yoga, acupuncture, sophrology, osteopathy, breastfeeding support and thalassotherapy for babies during your stay at the maternity.

Description of support or specific features

Our Fetal Medicine Unit

offers preconception visits, genetic and cytogenetic consultations as well as high-quality obstetric ultrasound exams performed by our sonographers specialized in prenatal diagnostics. A miscarriage support program has also been created to help couples cope with their loss.

During the first trimester of pregnancy, we offer expertise in early screening for fetal abnormalities, genetic in particular, using the One Day Test. Over the course of a half-day, you will undergo an anatomy scan and a blood test to evaluate your first trimester maternal serum markers. You will also benefit from a prenatal consultation with a specialist. Your test results will be given to you at the end of the half-day.

Our Fetal Medicine Unit assists couples with pregnancy monitoring as well as the diagnosis, decision-making and monitoring of pregnancy when a fetal malformation or abnormality is detected or suspected.

Our Maternity

provides care to infants born any time after 34 weeks of amenorrhea + 5 days  (32 weeks + 5 days of pregnancy) and/or with a birth weight of more than 1,800 grams.

During your stay, a “thalassotherapy” bath may be offered to your baby.

The Maternity has three heated tables (two of which are equipped with invasive and non-invasive ventilation systems for newborns experiencing respiratory distress) and an intensive phototherapy “tunnel” for the treatment of severe jaundice.

Our pediatricians also work closely with orthopedic and visceral surgeons specialized in pediatrics for the treatment of any abnormalities at birth.

A pediatric radiologist, a geneticist, physiotherapists and osteopaths complete the multidisciplinary team that manages care for newborns while ensuring their well-being and safety.

The Breast Center

A unit dedicated to providing personalized support to each woman in terms of prevention, diagnosis, surgery, cosmetic reconstruction, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Preventing Breast Cancer with the Women’s Risk Institute:

New specialized software based on artificial intelligence allows women with no history of breast cancer to benefit, starting at age 35, from individual screening designed to predict and avoid the occurrence of breast cancer five years ahead of clinical signs.

Breast cancer diagnosis in one half-day: The One-Day Breast Diagnosis

For women facing a detected breast anomaly or suspected breast cancer, the Breast Center of the American Hospital of Paris has created a personalized pathway for very rapid diagnosis to reduce the anxiety experienced when waiting for results.

In most situations, the One-Day Breast Diagnosis makes it possible to diagnose the exact nature of the detected anomaly in just one half-day. It includes:

  • A consultation with an oncologist specialized in breast cancer
  • Supplementary imaging (MRI or mammogram) performed by a radiologist specialized in breast diseases
  • Fine-needle aspiration with immediate analysis performed by a pathologist on site

The results are analyzed collectively and delivered to the patient by the oncologist at the end of the half-day. When necessary, treatment can be organized very rapidly, if desired by the patient.

Breast cancer treatment:

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists, coupled with innovative investigative technologies, leading-edge treatment methods and prompt, personalized care, ensures the highest possible levels of quality and safety of care.

Each patient’s care is managed by an attending oncologist and surgeon as well as a coordinating nurse.

Our breast surgeons have expert knowledge of all breast reconstruction techniques, even the most innovative, such as the latissimus dorsi flap method or reconstruction using autologous tissue from the lower abdomen, both of which offer a very natural-looking result. Reconstruction can either be immediate, at the beginning of treatment, or secondary, once treatment is completed.

Post-Breast Cancer Support: The Wellness Lab

The American Hospital of Paris’s Wellness Center provides supportive care and services to enhance women’s well-being after breast cancer treatment in a warm, feminine setting.

Here, based on a bespoke regimen defined jointly by their doctor and dedicated nursing staff, women benefit from the Wellness Lab. This program offers a holistic approach incorporating proven mind-body therapies such as yoga, Pilates, physiotherapy, meditation, acupuncture, sophrology, osteopathy, esthetic therapy and mindful nutrition, as well as consultations with specialists including a sexologist and dietician, thus providing support during a challenging time in patients’ lives where reclaiming one’s body and rebuilding self-esteem are fundamental.

Description of support or specific features

Our gastroenterologists

are specialised in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract and liver. The medical unit takes care of you from the moment you arrive and provides you with high quality care based on a state-of-the-art endoscopic technical platform. This allows us to perform high-level diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. We also offer a minimally invasive (scarless) procedure for moderate to severe obesity, the endosleeve. In all cases, you will receive appropriate and personalised care from the unit's doctors.

Our visceral and digestive surgery unit

uses the most recent surgical techniques, favouring as often as possible minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic) which simplifies the postoperative period for the patient, and outpatient surgery which allows a return home the same evening. Acute visceral and digestive surgical disorders are managed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
During your stay at the American Hospital in Paris, the doctors of the department can consult and collaborate if they deem it necessary with a team of specialists in various fields in order to determine the most appropriate and complete treatment for your needs. Taking into account your background, lifestyle and dietary habits is part of the "DNA" of the facility.

Dedicated staff will help you to organise your stay in hospital and guide you through all the administrative and hospital procedures: making appointments, contacting other specialists, taking blood samples, imaging tests, test results, billing and estimates. Specialist translators are available if required.
