1st in France, ablation of a thyroid micro-carcinoma using a non-invasive technique

April 13, 2022

The Thyroidology team of the American Hospital in Paris performed, for the first time in France, a microwave thermo-ablation of a papillary thyroid micro-carcinoma.

Three care plans were proposed: lobectomy, active surveillance and thermo-ablation. The patient wanted to avoid surgery – and scarring – and keep her thyroid.

The microwave ablation procedure was performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The postoperative course was simple and the patient is now followed regularly by ultrasound in the Unit.
