Birth of the 1st baby following the 1st uterus transplant in France!

The team of Professor Jean-Marc Ayoubi, head of the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine at Foch Hospital and professor at the Simone Veil Faculty of Medicine (University of Saint Quentin en Yvelines), has performed the first French birth following a uterus transplant.
This birth took place in very good conditions without any notable complications. A little girl weighing 1 kg 845 grams was born on Friday, February 12 after 33 weeks of pregnancy and is doing well as well as her mother.
This is a great joy and a great hope for thousands of patients born without a uterus or with uterine infertility caused by a hysterectomy or a non-functional uterus.
Suffering Rokitansky’s syndrome (MRKH), which affects 1 woman out of 4500, responsible for infertility due to uterine agenesis, the mother, aged 36, had benefited, in March 2019, from the first French uterine transplant performed by the same team.
The transplant had been performed with the uterus of a living donor, who is none other than the patient’s mother.
This French first is the result of more than 12 years of research in France and international collaborations, notably with the team of Mats Brännström, professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Göteborg and head of department at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. This is an example of a continuous and successful scientific collaboration on a European scale.
This research project, which has mobilized more than twenty researchers, has also led to several significant scientific advances in the fields of transplantation and reproduction.
